Amrit Rao

Amrit is an Investor & EIR at Village Global.

He was most recently Co-Founder and CEO of Made & Modern Furniture, a start-up that uses software and advanced manufacturing to make custom furniture at unparalleled value, speed, and scale.

Prior to launching Made & Modern, Amrit spent more than a decade as an investor at affiliates of Starboard Value, Tiger Management, T. Rowe Price, and Golden Gate Capital. He began his career as an M&A Analyst at the CSFB Technology Group, where he advised Google on its acquisition of YouTube.

A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, he co-authored several research papers while at the Stanford/NASA National Biocomputation Center, where he worked during his high school and undergraduate studies.

What’s the common thread that runs through your career?

I’m guided by my intellectual curiosity, my enthusiasm to work with passionate, high performing teams, and my desire to “make a dent in the universe.”

What’s one of your superpowers?

Connecting the dots between seemingly unrelated concepts. Genuinely being happy for others when they succeed. Not following instructions, apparently.

A book you commonly gift to people?

Two books have changed my life: The Bhagavad Gita: A Walkthrough for Westerners by Jack Hawley and The Power of TED* by David Emerald.

In your spare time?

I love to read, travel, run, and spend quality time with my family (especially when it entails watching tv or movies!).
